Unprecedented economic development in Western Australia implies that as much as 17,800 extra skilled workers will be desperately needed every year for the next ten years, according to a study launched today by education and training minister Mark McGowan. Many of these skilled workers must originate from Australia immigration. The Beyond the Resources Boom study was commissioned by their State Training Board (STB), and examines Western Australia's economic growth and the difficulties faced by the state's workforce. Skill shortages are set to remain a function of the labour market, the report concludes, because of the power of the aging workforce and the economy. STB chairman Keith Spence said the need could be met through the growth of local training initiatives, experienced immigration from interstate and international, and a mix of general populace growth. One of the top performing vocations, when it comes to estimated yearly average employment growth between 2006 and 2016, are advanced mining and construction personnel, plumbers, structural construction tradespersons, and mining, construction and related labourers. Demand for careers in the construction and mining industries is extremely high and a recession is considered unlikely. A number of these professions are on the Australia Skilled Occupation List and the Australia MODL (Migration Occupations in Demand List), which allows people looking for Australian immigration to additional things. Financial predictions modelled by the statement suggest there is unlikely to be described as a boom-bust scenario in the short to medium term. This reflects the resource-driven building boom, which is underpinned by strong growth popular from China and record thing rates, specially for the state's primary export, iron ore. Competent professions currently make up very nearly 60 per cent of the workforce and the report forecasts that total demand for greater skills in Western Australia is likely to remain constant as a percentage of the economy. Other skilled professions in demand include executives, managers, professionals, associate professionals, tradespersons and associated production, sales, transportation and clerical workers.
